The average American works way too much. When did it become the culture to work a 9 to 5 job, 5 days a week? When you spend at least 8 hours in an office, hammering away at things that you have very little interest in, it’s easy for your spirits and motivation about life to get very low. It’s not natural to be cooped up in a small, dark office for so many hours of the day, answering emails and wasting more time than you’re actually getting work done.

In any case, this is the way the world is for so many people, and there are ways to get out of it, but it’s not always easy. If you want to solidify a job where you”re not cooped up in an office carrying out somebody else’s dream, you’re working twice as hard trying to make your own become a reality…which is actually much more rewarding, but just as difficult.

When you work so hard, you need to take time for yourself. This is why when you vacation (which should be at least once a year) you need to do it like you’re freaking royalty.

Pick the Dream Location Because You’re Worth It

You might have to be a little strict about your finances to be able to cover the cost of traveling to exotic locations and vacationing like you’re a king or queen, but you’re worth it. What is that cup of coffee compared to time in Spain or France? When you plan your vacation, don’t give up on your dreams just because they’re a little too far away or take too many of your airline miles.

Just do it. Your life at home can be put on hold while you go out, experience the world, look at stunning things, and become a better person.

Say Yes to the High Brow Amenities

There is no reason for you to have to stay in a cheap motel on your vacation. Your ability to rest, recoup, and enjoy yourself is dependent on the quality of bed you’re sleeping in at night and the amount of jets in the bathtub in your room. You’re gone for a week. You might as well make it the best week of your life by choosing to rest in a place that will give you every cool amenity you can think of.

Get Pampered

Order room service and get the poolside hour long massage. You don’t take enough time for yourself during the rest of the year, so you have to do enough to make up for it in the vacation time that you have. Wherever you go, keep your eyes peeled for ways to pamper yourself.

You can even be a haggler in the process if you don’t like the price. Many places you will visit have people offering services because they need the money, but you don’t have to pay the price they request off the top. It’s more of a guideline than a rule, anyway. Make it happen. You’re worth every cent.
